January 1, 2019 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of J.D. Salinger, whose 1951 novel Catcher in the Rye gave a unique voice to American adolescence through its narrator Holden Caulfield. Holden's impatience with "phonies," nostalgic reverence for the innocence of youth, and struggles with motivation and depression have made him an iconic representative of teenage rebellion. Salinger continued to explore themes of identity, belonging, and alienation in his increasingly unconventional published work.

Northeast Branch (Independence)

The Northeast Branch first opened in February of 1993. In November 2009, the Warren County Freeholders purchased the Best Fruit Farm Building as the future home of the branch. After a year of renovations, in May 2011, staff and a group of 153 volunteers moved the branch to our new location. The new facility has become a community center with its meeting rooms, public access computers, and quiet reading area. We strive to offer programs of interest to both children and adults as well as being a focal point for community interaction.
