Requesting Local History Research

Requesting Research

We would like to help you find the information that will help you answer your questions. If you cannot visit us, we will answer questions by mail, although staff time does not allow us to do in-depth research. We can search in some of the most common sources for you, especially those that are indexed.

To obtain a copy of an obituary:

  • Call, email, or mail us a request for a photocopy of the information you need. Please indicate the name of the paper, the name of the person whose obituary you want, the date the obituary was in the paper, the page number upon which it appeared, and the column number if it is provided.  We will accept up to 5 names at one time.  There is no charge for this service, but we ask that you send us the letter and a SASE with 2 stamps addressed to:

    Reference Department
    Richard D. Gardner Branch
    2 Shotwell Drive
    Belvidere, New Jersey 07823

If you plan to visit us, you can use the Local History and Genealogy Room at any time the library is open. We have one microfilm reader/printer that is available on a first come, first served basis. Time on the reader/printer is limited to 30 minutes if others are waiting to use it. Copies are 10 cents each.

We are happy to provide these services free of charge, but some people wish to thank the Library by making a donation. We thank you very much for your thoughtfulness. Donations can be made to the Friends of the Warren County Library at the address listed above.
